Reflection on ICT integrated lesson for November month, 2021

Lesson information 

It was on 9^th November, I taught lesson on two types of bar graphs (horizontal bar graph and vertical bar graph) to class III students. This lesson was a new topic for the mathematics class. I just made class to recollect what they did in their previous lesson or what they learnt in their earlier classes that are related with data collection lesson to connect with the day’s lesson. Then, I wrote the day’s lesson topic on the board (Two types of bar graph). I first explain the two broad types of bar graph. Horizontal bar graph represents data variables using proportional horizontal bar that are often used to represent comparison between nominal variables and vertical bar graph is also known as column graph that mostly represents the numerical values of data information against to the proportional to the quantities that they represent. In order to make my class livelier and more interactive I made class to watch short video clip on two broad types of bar graph.

            After they finished watching video clip on types of bar graph, I again asked questions to check their understanding from the video lesson. I even made few volunteers to share their understanding from the video lesson to connect with the day’s lesson. After information collection from few volunteers, I displayed the topic through power point slides.

 I explained two types of bar graph with an example displayed on the power point slide. I even explained what and where to write the title, numbers and names also how to write number scales. Once they all are clear with types of bar graph and the levels, I made class to draw two types of bar graph following the data given below.

Merits of ICT integrated lesson

Out of numerous advantages of using ICT integrated lesson, ICTs can enhance the quality of education in several ways. One can be like ICT integrated lesson increases learners’ motivation and engagement actively throughout the lesson enforcing learners to learn through exploration. ICT lesson aids learners to acquire of basic skills to use transformational tools which when used appropriately, can promote the shift to a learner-centered environment unlike conventional method of teaching. ICT integrated lesson also builds communication gap, reduce time consumption, bridging information input gap where children communicate more and faster with ICT integrated lesson because it’s much faster to communicate and grab information from various sources.

De-merits of ICT integrated lesson

Every advantage has its own disadvantages, in general there are always some key issues and challenges found to be significant in using ICT tools by both students and teachers. Some problems could be with limited accessibility and network connection, limited technical support, lack of effective training, limited time and lack of teachers' competency. One of the common major problems could be lack of genuine software, inadequate computer in the school computer laboratory, low speed internet, lack of motivation from both teacher and student side to use ICT, lack of proper training skills, unavailability of latest ICT equipment, lack of expert technical staff, poor administrative support, poor course and resources.

 Future Improvements

For the future improvement and betterment of ICT integrated lesson to enhance the quality of teaching and learning, teachers have to always increase learners’ motivation and active participation in their daily learning activities. Teacher have to facilitate the acquisition of basic skills in using ICT to all children and also by enhancing proper training to all teachers in using latest method of using ICT in our daily teaching. In order to make proper use of ICT in our teaching and learning we have to develop proper planning right from the beginning with specific objectives in our block plan. There is widespread belief that ICTs can and will empower both teachers and learners transforming teaching and learning processes from being highly teacher-dominated to student-centered.

Reflection on ICT integrated lesson for October month, 2021

Lesson information

It was on Thursday, 21^st October, I taught lesson on developing simple paragraph (6-10 sentences paragraph) to class III students base on the picture sequences during my English lesson. This lesson was continuation to the previous lesson as I failed to achieve within a period. For this particular lesson I just made class to recollect what they did in their previous lesson to connect with the day’s lesson by displaying the sample paragraph on power point written base on the picture sequences. Students were all active in reading the sample paragraph when the lesson was presented on the power point slides. Students show full interest in the ICT integrated lesson as ICT has emerged as an effective instrument to bring ideas and information very clearer and closer compared to the conventional method of teaching thus, students become more interactive in learning activities. More over children of today’s world are more inclined towards technology base learning where they explore and learn beyond the textual and the teacher’s information.                     

Before my actual classroom activity, I made class to watch observe my sample picture sequence and also made them to read my sample paragraph as depicted below.

The boy was sleeping on his bed peacefully. Suddenly he woke up as it was time to go to school. He then came out of his bed and put on his slippers, he then went to his dressing room and got dressed. After that he went to the wash room and made himself fresh and clean. Then, he sat for the breakfast, after breakfast he brushed his teeth before going to school.    

         Once they are done with reading sample paragraph, I distributed a copy each of new picture sequenced for the lesson activity. All groups wrote 6- 10 sentences paragraph base on the picture sequenced provided to them. Once they are done with the activity one from every group reported their paragraph to the whole class as a sharing activity with all members. Both teacher and students made comments and feedbacks after the presentation. Finally, lesson came to an end by displaying my sample paragraph to make them compare and connect with their paragraph also to modify their activity prior the group members copy in their respective note books. 

Merits of ICT integrated lesson

Some of the advantages of using ICT integrated lesson are in building communication gap, reduce time consumption, bridging information input gap etc. children communicate more and faster with ICT integrated lesson because it’s much quicker to communicate and grab information around as ICT has become much quicker and more efficient compared to conventional method of teaching in 21^st century teaching learning. 

It also reduces in time consumption. We present everything on the power point slides managing more time for children to read and carryout activity also we can relate more relevant information through video clips and pictures. It is also important that the use of ICT is well planned and prepared for the effective learning through use of pedagogical approaches that promote lifelong learning due to change of curriculum and the education system. Both teachers and students will find teaching and learning livelier and more educative by using ICT tools in terms of continual professional development and learning.

 De-merits of ICT integrated lesson

While most of the teachers use ICT integrated lesson, there are always challenges to overcome. Challenges like Misleading and misguiding information from irrelevant sources. 

Now a days even a graduates can’t write a paragraph correctly with beautiful writing like in the past, this is all due to maximum teaching and learning inclined more towards ICT field. And there lies a big danger that learners will totally forget our traditional method of learning and inclined towards ICT world losing the whole essences of our rich culture and tradition. Sometimes integrating ICT in the lesson results in time consumption due to power fluctuation and poor internet facilities during learning through exploration.

 Future Improvements

Now after having talked about merits and demerits of ICT integrated lesson, considering challenges with lots of positive solution can and will empower teachers, and learners to transform teaching and learning processes from being highly teacher centered to learner centered for the future improvement as a whole. To plan lesson that can guide learners to learn through exploration with proper direction and guidance.

Teachers should be always behind the scene to create and provide more opportunities for learners to develop their creativity, problem solving abilities, communication skills, higher order thinking skills and many other skills to explore in their learning. Make students well familiar with right technology to learn better within technology-based environment to use technology in all aspects of pedagogical application of ICT will lead to effective learning with the help and supports from ICT element.

Reflection on ICT integrated lesson for September month, 2021

Lesson information

It was on 14^th September, I used one of my ICT integrated lessons to teach class III students on how to develop short and simple paragraph using the questionnaire or by students themselves in my English lesson. This lesson took almost a week to full fill my set objectives as most of the student come from literally backward family. ICT integration in our teaching lesson develops or improves engagement of students actively throughout the whole lesson and also students can understand and retain content knowledge for longer period as we know and remember better what we learn or do things by seeing and doing. 

This is because children of today’s world are more inclined towards technology where they look for different opportunities to make it more fun and enjoyable in their daily learning and learning things in different ways alerts physically and mentally. Before my actual lesson I made class to watch short video clip on how to develop or write short and simple paragraph of their own. All students were very much attracted by the video clip and found active participation by all the students compared to the lesson without ICT integration. Then, I started to teach my real content of the lesson by presenting power point slides to explain and make them clearer with what they have seen in the video clip and to make connection with lesson activity. Prior the lesson activity, whole class was made clear with the content information by displaying the set of examples as depicted below.

My Parents

My parents are loving parents. My father works in the office. He goes to his office daily. My mother is a house wife. She is very kind and helps me in washing my school uniform and packing lunch every day. Sometimes go for a picnic with my parents. I also study and play with my father when my father is free from his office work. My parents are very much caring to me and I am very much lucky to have such parents. I love them so much and wish to live with them throughout my life.

After my presentation using projector I realize more active participation from students’ part thus, integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in our lesson motivates learners to access more information, promote interaction and communication, and enhance digital literacy skills at a very young age of schooling. Both teachers and students become aware that the effective teaching and learning become successful learning activities when there is active participation in learning as learners develop a set of skills necessary to carry out lesson alone and in collaboration with others and in their own professional learning. Students were made to develop paragraph base on the given questionnaire and finally one from every were made to report to the whole class. In this way students will be able to support their friends in raising awareness of the importance of integrating technology, tackling obstacles that might currently hinder effective integration of ICT in their learning contex

Merits of ICT integrated lesson

        Both teachers and students will find learning livelier and more educative by using available ICT tools and open educational resources for language teaching and learning that become aware of their needs in terms of continual professional development and learning. It is also important that the use of ICT is introduced and supported in a sustainable way and in a range of pedagogical approaches that promote lifelong learning due to change of curriculum and the education system.

 De-merits of ICT integrated lesson

Every advantage has disadvantages and Just like any other technology, ICT too has certain limitations and restrictions in using in our lesson teaching.  While most of the teachers teach students by integrating ICT in the lesson there are always challenges to overcome. In addition, ICT provides the help and complementary supports for both teachers and students where it involves effective learning with the help of the computers to serve the purpose of learning.

Reflection on ICT integrated lesson for August month, 2021

Lesson information

One of my ICT integrated lessons for class III English was taught on 16^th August 2021 about types of letters that they should be able to write in class III.  Before explaining on how to write personal letter, class was made clear with types of letters and its features. 

In this 21^st century education system, ICT has greatest impact in every field for both teachers and students. For teachers it helps in delivering the lesson through different modes whereby students get more interacted and engaged into the lessons due to various opportunities. For this particular lesson I made students to watched short video clip on types of letters and how to write personal letter. Students were very much interested and attracted by the video clip and found active participation in watching the video clip. After the video clip session, I presented my power point slides to explain and make them clearer with what they have seen in the video. 

First and foremost, I explained the types of letters that they should know in class three. I explained what formal and informal (personal) letters are. Then, I informed the class about the day’s topic “Personal letter” letter to our friends, families, parents and relatives.  I first explained the features of writing informal or personal letter thereafter I related my sample letter with that of the sample that they have watched in the earlier video, finally, I made children to copy the sample letter and informed groups to come up with new sample referring to the sample displayed on the power point screen or to the example that they have copied in their note book. On the whole lessons become livelier and more interesting if our lesson is integrated with ICT.

Merits of ICT integrated lesson

In today’s classroom teaching and learning, teachers and students as a main consumer of ICT, we all strive for the one dream – the dream of a connected life and easier ways of doing day to daily works. This makes ICT a lifestyle choice for much of the learning process. In addition, this lifestyle choice is changing the way we communicate, increasing the rate of consumerism, and changing how we interact and gather information at the fastest rate.  ICT has invaded and transformed many aspects of our lives besides classroom teaching and learning to the extent that we live in an environment that is dominated by technology around the globe.

 De-merits of ICT integrated lesson

As there is always disadvantages after advantages, let me share some of the challenges encounter during lesson. At times children are found too dependent to the internet for any types of learning activities which results lack of reading and writing habits unlike the traditional system. At times students download whole information from the net and leads to wrong information and plagiarism. If we are to assign ICT integrated lesson to students as a home work student from low-income family may not afford computer, smart phones and data package to make access to the internet. So, these are some challenges our students may face at this period of time.

 Future Improvement 

In sum, not all types of lesson can be incorporated with ICT. It can be best use if a lesson topic and activities demand for particular period of time, where students can make good use to provide productive results. For lower classes students they should be trained to use available resources of technology to communicate and collaborate with friends and teachers efficiently otherwise they will land up in wasting time and resources.

Reflection on ICT integrated lesson for July month, 2021

My reflection on ICT integrated lesson for class III English which was taught on 2^nd July 2021 would be of immense benefit to my own daily teaching and learning process as well as to reflect on what, when and how to engage learners meaningfully with ICT integrated lesson.   

In this 21^st century education system, ICT has great impact in every field for both teachers and students. For teachers it helps in delivering the lesson through different modes whereby students get more interacted and engaged into the lessons due to various opportunities. Also helps in making the process of learning more fun and enjoyable even to teach same topic in different ways. And for students too, they learn much better compared with the lesson without ICT.

In this ICT integrated lesson, I could maintain the class active and interactive throughout the lesson as I have whole lesson presented through projector with important points and short video clip. Such type of plan helps children to communicate in real-time with friends to make their learning effective as well as students can even interact with friends who are at distance using technologies such as instant messaging, voice over IP (VoIP), video-conferencing and many others. Social networking websites like Facebook, we chat, telegram allows users from all over the world to remain in contact and communicate on a regular basis. Information and communication Technology (ICT), in the education sector plays an important role, especially in the process of empowering the technology into the educational activities especially staring last year due to COVIDD-19 pandemic.         

Regarding my lesson, I made children to watch video clip which was 5 minutes speech about the speaker’s school in the lesson development part, children were made to listen to the speech presented on the power point presentation where they can understand much better than teacher’s explanation. Today, ICT is fully used as a regular tool for our daily teaching and learning process. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, for about two weeks I used Google classroom, Telegram and We-chat for teaching and learning. In this type of teaching the students are fully engage and can able to find out the solution of the problems by themselves. In fact teaching and learning process is happening through use of gadgets and this helps our student to explore, solve problems, increase learner’s motivation and engagement and facilitating the acquisition of basic skills through use of ICT.

To end my ICT integrated lesson reflection, children were made to comprehend the key massages collected from speaker’s speech. Groups were made to do round table for the report to the whole class. After the stipulated time, one from every group reported their massages to the whole class. Then, after presentation by all groups, I presented my sample summary through power point and informed class to watch short speeches by using smart phones at home as a home work.

Lesson Learned

Madam tutor took us through module term plan and made us aware of mode of assessment, aims and objectives of the module, discuss how to maintain Learning Logs. Then, madam tutor presented us on what is reading? Why teach reading? We discussed and shared the main motive behind life-long reading. Then we learned about 'Reading Fluency' and how to improve children's fluency in reading. After I went through the components of fluency (Accuracy, Reading speed and Prosody) in the ppt. slides uploaded in the VLE. I learned the real meaning of chunking in reading and the four reading cueing system. I also learned components of Literacy development and decoding strategy chart.

Lesson Analysis/Reflection

Reading is central key for the learners to improve in their learning, without knowing the strategies of reading, no one can learn or make changes in his/her life. For example we can adapt Chunking sentences reading with poor readers till they get along with others. So just we need to focus on students’ chunking words to make meaningful sentences following the steps of chunking for fluency and comprehension in reading.
